Winter 2020 Neighbors Helping Neighbors
As you already know, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been several changes to how the world does business or the “new normal.” Everyone is having to adjust, and that is the same for the Greater Valdosta United Way with one exception; we will continue to look out for the best interest of our communities. In this unprecedented time of need and uncertainty, the GVUW is partnering with community partners, business owners, individuals and partner agencies to strengthen our communities in response to COVID-19.
With all the social distancing, there are still ways you can help families in our communities, safely. You can donate to the GVUW and designate to a nonprofit of your choice. We have three financial aid funds to assist with utility bills that you can designate your gift to. There is the Publix Last Resort Fund that aides with past due utilities as long as someone in the household is currently employed. We also have our Senior Citizen fund which is used to assist seniors 60 years of age or older with utilities. Lastly, we have our Disaster Fund that is currently being used to assist those affected by COVID-19. We have several ways to donate; you can bring or mail your donation to our office at 1609 N. Patterson Street, you can also visit our website or use your cell phone and text GVUW1954 to #44321.
In addition to our utility assistance we have a pantry here at the office to help individuals and families with nonperishable groceries, diapers, and personal care products such as: toothpaste, toothbrush, disposable razors, soap, and feminine hygiene items. We also have small food pantries at various locations around town for people to pick up nonperishable items on the honor system, and we are always in need of items to replenish all the pantries. This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and touch many lives. If you are not able to give financially, or just want the hands on experience you can always donate your time and talents. GVUW and our partner agencies are always looking for volunteers. It all comes down to just getting involved and making a change in any way you can.
