United Way roars into 2020
The Greater Valdosta United Way held an event framed in the 20’s style as they celebrated 2020. Smith wanted to give the people of valdosta something to do, as they raised money for the agencies funded through United Way. He had even partnered with Georgia Beer Company’s party, allowing ticket buyers for one party to get into the other party for $20. Using the idea of prom king and queen, candidates were selected to represent different agencies with votes made by the people. The candidates where Brandi McCrary, Adrian Rivers, Olivia Wright, Anne Mcleod, Mary Clare Tarpley, Jessica Thornhill, Dan Deaver, Stan Crance, Zane Dees and Michael Smith. The winners ended up being Dan Deaver (who campaigned for the Boy Scouts and Camp Rock) and Brandi McCary (who campaigned for YMCA and Youth Impact Center). They both received trophies and will serve as United Way’s ambassadors throughout 2020. The event had raised $30,000 in total and all of it will go to the agencies.
The event sponsors were Jessie’s, GUD Craft Coffee, Miller Hardware Company, Coleman Talley, Smitty’s, Wes Sewell Photography, Knight Appraisal Group and Johnson Distributing.
