South Georgia chapter of Southeastern Credit Union Hosts Greater Valdosta United Way
Michael Smith, the Greater Valdosta United Way executive director, was a guest speaker at the South Georgia chapter of Southeastern Credit Union’s quarterly meeting located at
the Holiday Inn Conference Center.
Michael Smith served and still serves in leadership positions in local private and non-profit organizations. Smith presented information on the role that United Way plays in South Georgia, the various new initiatives that he has started, and the numerous non-profit agencies that assist individuals in need of help. He discussed the Greater Valdosta United Way’s role which is “to create positive change by bringing resources together to improve people’s lives in our communities.”
Mike Gudely, Teresa Paulo, and Peggy Daniels, who are board members, and local credit union executives, gave Smith a check for $1,000 after the meeting. In addition, some of the credit unions that attended had some employees who recently participated in the United Way Day of Caring which took place on August 23 and is a day meant to bring people together to create a positive impact with the agencies that help those in need.
The South Georgia Chapter of Credit Unions is made up of Southeastern Credit Union, Southern Pine Credit Union, Valdosta Teachers’ Credit Union, LOCOGA Credit Union, and Berrien Teacher’s Credit Union. The reason that the chapter meets quarterly is to discuss credit union problems and seek ways to give back to the community.
